Parks in and around Launceston
City Park
This is a great park in Launceston, off Tamar Street - although you can access it from a number of entrances. The path throughout is mainly flat and sealed and there are some beautifully manicured gardens, a conservatory and a monkey enclosure to check out. You can definitely spend a good few hours strolling around here.
The Victoria Cafe on the Park does a great coffee...please note we have only sat outside with the wheelchair.
Dogs are not allowed in this park.
Tailrace Park
Tailrace park is located in Riverside, just 5 minutes drive outside of Launceston. This popular park is in a pretty scenic spot down by the waterfront...bbq facilities, a playground, wetlands and a lovely wheelchair friendly walk along the West Tamar are all on offer (see under walks for more details).
Dogs allowed on lead.
Windsor Park
Just a couple of kms drive up the road from Tailrace park is Windsor Park...located in the Windsor Community Precinct. This appears to have undergone a bit of an upgrade and as my folks would describe...a hidden gem. There is a beautifully-kept, wheelchair friendly, 2km sculpture walk, which leads out to an off-leash dog exercise area and the Tamar river. The path is well formed throughout and flat. Definitely worth a visit and a wander. On a side note - this area is also home to Launceston Football Club.
Dogs allowed on lead.
Royal Park
This park covers a fairly large area and is alongside Seaport. The path throughout is sealed and mostly flat and very popular with walkers, runners and cyclists. This park is also home to a bowls club, a kids skateboard park and a tennis court. Perfect for an afternoon wheelchair stroll.
Dogs allowed on lead.
